Founded in 1883, YL is Finland’s most famous musical organization. The 60 voice choir has toured major international venues for many years and recorded over 80 albums. Recent North American performnaces include Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center bringing the audience to its feet for an ovation lasting 20 minutes; Carnegie Hall (named Concert of The Year 2010 by Alex Ross/New York Magazine); The Minnesota Orchestra; and two tours of Mexico with the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico.

Composers ranging from Jean Sibelius, who wrote many works for YL, to Einjuhani Rautavaara have composed works specifically for YL.
